Richard Wallace

Physician/Owner

Why did you choose to work in the medical field?

I got into the medical field for a bunch of reasons. I was always a very curious kid. I loved understanding how things worked. I was the kid that would get a toy for a birthday or for Christmas and within three hours I had already taken it apart. I just got more pleasure taking apart my remote control cars and seeing how they worked and making them “work better”, than just playing with them out of the box.

The older I got, this curiosity shifted towards the human body. What was the purpose of a body? I really wanted to know how it worked, but mainly how can you make it better. By the time I was in college this desire just kept growing and it hasn’t stopped. Becoming a doctor was just a natural fit for me. One of my natural purposes that just doesn’t even feel like work.

What’s your hidden talent?

Persistence. I am able to get anything done that I set my mind to. Once I decide to do something it pretty much is a done deal.

What’s your favorite place you have been to thus far? And where would you like to go next?

I don’t travel much but so far,..Moscow, Russia. Such a cool city, culture, vibe. Totally caught me off guard. Not sure what I was expecting.

Italy is definitely on the radar. The Italians I have gotten to meet are some of the nicest people.

What’s your favorite dish and where can we get it?

My absolute favorite type of food is,..surprise, Jamaican food. Maybe it has something to do with the fact that I am Jamaican. As for a specific dish I would say ackee and saltfish with cooked green banana and hard dough bread. My favorite breakfast which I usually get when I go home to visit my parents. But if you can’t make it to my parents’ house, any good Jamaican restaurant you go to will have it.

If you could have dinner with anyone who would that be and what would you ask them?

Tom Cruise. Can you be my wingman?

What do you absolutely love to do in your free time and why?

I absolutely love exercising in my free time. I just love being strong and having the ability to move my body and do whatever I want with it.

What’s your favorite quote that you live by?

“I am the master of my fate: I am the captain of my soul.”

Why do you like working at Bayside Urgent Care Center?

So many reasons why I love working here. We have such a great team. Such a good group of people that always make it an absolute pleasure to come to work. I started working in urgent care clinics in 2003 and never looked back. Loved the flow, pace, challenge, helping people, teaching people,… Everything I learned along my journey I applied to this clinic. It is the ideal scene.
