Urgent Care for Nausea and Vomiting

Experiencing nausea or vomiting is not pleasant, but in most cases, these conditions will go away on their own. However, there is the possibility that these symptoms indicate a more serious issue is present. When throwing up becomes prolonged, it could cause dehydration which can be detrimental to your health if left untreated.

Bayside Urgent Care Center is located in Clearwater, Florida, and we’re always accepting new patients. No appointments are necessary.

What Causes Nausea and Vomiting?

Some of the causes for nausea and vomiting:

  • Appendicitis
  • Food allergies
  • Food poisoning
  • Pregnancy
  • Reaction to medicine
  • Stomach flu
  • Ulcers

Are There Home Treatment Options?

One of the most important things to do when experiencing nausea and vomiting is staying hydrated. When you aren’t feeling well you may not want to put anything in your stomach for fear of throwing it back up. To handle this try occasionally sipping water. This can help you to stay hydrated without further upsetting your stomach. Drinking clear liquids, like broth or a sports drink, can help replenish the electrolytes you’ve lost. Nibbling on something plain like toast or a cracker can help soothe your stomach and reduce the feelings of nausea. Getting plenty of rest and replenishing your fluids is important.

When Should You Go to Urgent Care?

A short bout of queasiness or throwing up is not something to be concerned about unless it becomes prolonged. If you experience nausea and vomiting for more than 48 hours, it’s time to get medical assistance. Visit us at Bayside Urgent Care Center if you’re experiencing these additional symptoms:

  • Bad abdominal pain
  • Blood in your vomit (It might look like coffee grounds.)
  • Confusion
  • Dehydration
  • High fever
  • Severe headache
  • Stiff neck
  • Unable to keep liquids down
  • Uncontrolled diarrhea
  • Vomiting nonstop for more than four hours

Elderly and young children are more susceptible to dehydration, so keep a close eye on them and be aware of these signs of dehydration:

  • Dark-colored urine
  • Dizziness
  • Lightheaded
  • Peeing less than usual
  • Thirst

When Should You Seek Emergency Treatment?

If you suddenly throw up or it is very intense this could indicate a serious condition, such as an intestinal blockage. Bayside Urgent Care Center is equipped to treat serious, non-life-threatening conditions. For life-threatening conditions, please call 911 immediately or go to the nearest emergency room.

What to Bring When You Visit

Know your family medical history and be prepared to give this information to the doctor. To help us treat you more effectively, please be prepared to tell us about any medications you take (including vitamins and supplements), past illnesses and surgeries, and your primary care doctor’s phone number and address so we can transfer records, if necessary.

Does Bayside Urgent Care Accept Insurance?
