Sinusitis or sinus disease, also known as a sinus infection, is defined as inflammation, or swelling of the sinuses. When the sinus openings become blocked, or too much mucus accumulates, a sinus infection begins.

There are three main types of sinus infections. These are called acute, sub-acute, and chronic.

There are several different causes of sinus infections, including bacteria, viruses, allergens, chemicals, or even pollutants. These infections are more common in the spring and fall, as allergens are more prominent.

Viral sinusitis usually lasts seven to 10 days. And, it can be effectively treated with rest, fluids, and over-the-counter antihistamines, mucolytics, decongestants, or nasal sprays.

Depending on your situation, we will offer medical help to relieve your symptoms. We may prescribe antibiotics, decongestants, and other drugs to help relieve the pain and swelling in your sinuses.
