Playing It Safe with a Sports Physical
Is your child an athlete? Do they participate in sports during school, at camp or with a sporting association? They likely need to get a sports physical to make sure they can safely play.
No appointments are necessary and walk-ins are welcome. At Bayside Urgent Care Center in Clearwater, Florida, we make getting a sports physical easy. Typically, we can get you and your child in and out in less than 1 hour.
Why Do Organizations Require a Sports Physical?
Specific requirements may vary depending upon the organization. A sports physical is an opportunity for our medical professionals to review your child’s complete health history. Also, they check their current health, and discuss any concerns.
At Bayside Urgent Care Center, our sports physicals:
One main goal of the exam is to advise how your child can protect themselves from injury. Also, we show them how to play safely if they have a chronic illness (like asthma) or medical condition. A school or sporting organization may need one before your child returns to play after an injury. A broken bone or a concussion would be such injuries.

What You Can Expect
A sports physical at Bayside Urgent Care Center has two main parts. The first is a medical history. We will talk about past/current injuries, illnesses, and problems that may make injury (or re-injury) more likely. Following the history, is the physical examination where we will check:
When Should You Schedule?
We recommend coming in for a sports physical about 6 weeks before the season begins. By doing so, you give yourself time to follow-up on any concerns that need addressing.
If sports are starting sooner than 6 weeks, come in today, and a Bayside Urgent Care medical professional will perform the examination.
What to Bring When You Visit Bayside Urgent Care Center
Be sure to bring your school’s or program’s required documentation. Include a sports physical form, immunization records, vaccine cards, and waivers.
Also, bring a list of any past illnesses, injuries, surgeries, or any other conditions.
Are a Sports Physical and an Annual Physical the Same?
No. A sports physical does not take the place of regular medical care or annual exams. A sports physical focuses on your child’s well-being as it relates to playing a sport and is specific about athletic issues. A regular physical is more in-depth and addresses overall well-being, which may include some things related to sports.
Does Bayside Urgent Care Accept Insurance for Physicals?
For most Bayside Urgent Care services, we do accept insurance. However, we do NOT accept insurance for physicals. These must be paid for out-of-pocket. This is true for annual physicals, surgical clearance, well-woman physicals, and the rest. You will find these exams are reasonably priced at $20.
