Peber De Jesus

Medical Assistant/X-ray Tech

Why did you choose to work in the medical field?

When growing up, one of the hardest challenges was choosing the right career. When I was a student, I switched my major half way through school from a computer science degree to a healthcare degree as an x-ray tech. As of today, I know I have made the right choice. Every day I feel like I’m helping people and increasing my knowledge in the healthcare field.

What’s your hidden talent?

One of the hidden talents that I have is baking. One time, I made garlic bread from scratch and my family loved it so much that they didn’t leave any crumbs.

What’s your favorite place you have been to thus far? And where would you like to go next?

My favorite place will always be my home country, the Dominican Republic. My culture, my family, the people, the beaches…Everything about the Dominican Republic is so nice. My next destination will likely be another island in the Caribbean, possibly the Bahamas.

What’s your favorite dish and where can we get it?

As a Dominican, we can never miss having a dish called “pastelon” on the table. Pastelon is layers of smashed sweet plantains filled in layers of beef. You can get it at any Dominican/Puerto Rican Restaurant nearby.

If you could have dinner with anyone who would that be and what would you ask them?

A historic, wise man that I always enjoy watching is Martin Luther King Junior. I’ve always wondered how would it be having dinner with him. I would probably ask him: “How does it feel to make the greatest historic change in the world?”

What do you absolutely love to do in your free time and why?

In my free time, I love simple things such as observing nature. Even just looking at the backyard view at my house especially when the best times of the day comes, when sunrise or sunset hits.

What’s your favorite quote that you live by?

My favorite quote that I live by is: “Always treat others the way you’d like to be treated” Always be nice with a smile on your face, because at the end of the day you don’t know what someone may be going through. The simplicity of a smile could make a person’s day!
