Nearly half of adults in the U.S. are diagnosed with hypertension or high blood pressure. Hypertension claimed the lives of almost 500,000 U.S. citizens in 2018. Regular blood pressure checks can help with early diagnosis and ultimately save a person’s life.
Bayside Urgent Care Center is located in Clearwater, Florida, and we’re always accepting new patients. No appointments are necessary.
What is Blood Pressure?
Blood pressure is the pressure of circulating blood against the walls of the blood vessels. Your heart pushes blood through your arteries and veins at certain acceptable pressures. When a medical professional takes your blood pressure, they record two numbers. One of these is called “systolic pressure” and the other is called “diastolic pressure”.
Systolic refers to the force against your blood vessels as your heart is pumping blood throughout your body. Diastolic is the force against your blood vessels as the blood flows back into your heart.
When a medical professional measures your blood pressure, the numbers represent your systolic and diastolic readings. You will know from these numbers if your pressure is within the normal range. If your pressure is out of the healthy range, you will need to take action to correct it. Here are the specific ranges:
- High blood pressure is anything 140/90 or higher.
- Normal range is less than 120/80.
- Low is 90/60 or lower.
If you suspect you have high blood pressure or just want to check, visit Bayside Urgent Care. Our medical staff is expert at treating this and other non-life-threatening emergencies.
