Urgent Care for Treating Bug Bites

Bug bites are common in warm months when people spend more time outdoors. But, you can still receive a bug bite any time of the year. Fortunately, many of these can be treated at home. However, some may lead to serious complications and allergic reactions if not treated properly. If you suspect that you have been bitten by a bug and are experiencing a reaction, visit Bayside Urgent Care. What Are the Most Common Bug Bites?

There are many types of pests that can bite or sting, but the most common are the following:

  • Bees
  • Mosquitos
  • Spiders
  • Ticks
  • Fire ants

What Are the Symptoms?

The symptoms you experience from a bug bite or sting can vary depending on your body’s response to the venom. Some of the mild symptoms are:

  • Minor swelling
  • Soreness or pain
  • Redness with itching or burning

If you experience any of the severe symptoms listed below, call 911, because you may be having an allergic reaction:

  • Trouble breathing or swallowing
  • Swelling in your mouth or throat
  • Nausea or vomiting
  • Reddish rash or hives
  • Dizziness or loss of consciousness

What Treatments are Available?

If you are bitten or stung, Bayside Urgent Care is here to help. We will evaluate the bite and prescribe medication for pain and itch relief, decreasing swelling, and preventing complications. You may find that the following also help you feel more comfortable:

  • Cold pack to reduce swelling
  • Hydrocortisone cream, calamine lotion, or baking soda paste to reduce itching
  • Special anti-itch soap or common bar soap

What To Bring When You Visit

If you believe you are having a mild reaction to a bug bite, you can help us by letting us know:

  • Symptoms you are experiencing
  • When and how often they occur
  • Bugs or insects you may have had contact with

Also, be prepared to tell us about any medications you take (including vitamins and supplements). Let us know of past illnesses and surgeries. Also, give us your primary care doctor’s phone number and address so we can transfer records, if necessary.

Does Bayside Urgent Care Accept Insurance?

Yes. We accept Medicare and most major insurance carriers. If you are underinsured, uninsured, or prefer to pay out-of-pocket, our services are reasonably priced, and we offer flexible payment plans.
