Urgent Care for Back Pain Relief

Back problems are one of the most common medical issues in the United States. Everyday activities like moving a box or doing housework, along with improper posture, can cause you to experience back issues. While back pain is never fun, it’s even worse if it becomes debilitating and stops you from doing the things you love. According to an article from the Cleveland Clinic, back problems are the most common complaint that healthcare workers receive after headaches. If you are in pain, visit Bayside Urgent Care Center for treatment. Our medical staff is expert at treating these and other non-life-threatening emergencies. We are located in Clearwater, Florida, and we’re always accepting new patients. No appointments are necessary.

Different Types of Pain

There are various ways a back issue can present itself. Some of the most common types of pain in the back are:

  • Axial pain: This is when there is a specific region or spot with pain. This ache can be sharp or dull, constant, or throbbing.

  • Referred pain: This occurs in a place different from the actual injury location. It is a dull, achy discomfort, and it often will move around and become more intense.

  • Radicular pain: Caused when your spinal nerve root is compressed or pinched or if the nerve root has inflammation. The ache radiates from the hip and back, then travels down the leg, and is often accompanied by muscle weakness, numbness, or tingling.

The pain can either be acute or chronic. Acute aches will typically last no more than six weeks and is a sharp ache that occurs suddenly due to an activity you are doing. This could include lifting a heavy box incorrectly or overexertion. Chronic pain is when it lasts longer than three months.

When Should You Go to an Urgent Care Center with Back Pain?

You can often resolve a back problem by resting and icing the area. If you are experiencing any of the following symptoms along with your back pain, come to Bayside Urgent Care Center:

  • If it occurs suddenly and won’t go away.
  • Numbness, discomfort, or tingling in your legs.
  • Weakness in your legs.
  • It is spreading to other areas of your body.

Our urgent care facility can help with your back pain. By performing X-rays of your spine, we can better determine where the injury is located. X-rays can also help us determine the severity of the injury. Our medical professionals will evaluate the findings, and depending on the severity of the damage found, they will present a treatment plan or refer you to a specialist. Seek assistance at the nearest emergency room or call 911 if you experience any of the following:

  • Back pain radiating to the abdomen in front.
  • Discomfort in your back resulting from an accident or injury.
  • Bladder incontinence or difficulty passing urine.
  • If you have known risk factors for a fracture, like osteoporosis.
  • Inability to stand or walk.
  • Inability to control your bowels.
  • Intolerable aching in your lower back and/or legs.
  • Loss of consciousness.
  • Loss of sensation in the groin area, anal region, or one or both of the legs.
